Telnet Rate Limiting

Route Views collectors provide public telnet access to our collectors. This service is intended for network operators to manually run limited commands as needed, such as:

show ip bgp regexp _<your ASN>$

ℹ How do I automate my BGP queries now?

Route Views and partners maintain a collection of tools that can be used for BGP automation.

ℹ Why rate limiting?

Route Views MRT archives will occasionally have gaps if CPU/Memory resources are being used by used by telnet sessions at the same time as a MRT dump is scheduled. By enforcing rate limiting, MRT Archives will be more complete going forward.

Policy

Collector Limits

  • Max 20 concurrent connections. Additional connections are queued for 2 seconds.
  • Idle connections are closed after 120 seconds.

Daily User Limits

  • 100 connections
  • 500 Kbytes downloaded
  • 100 Kbytes uploaded

ℹ When do my limits reset?

We use a sliding window implementation. So, there is no ‘reset,’ but instead anything that happened more than 24 hours ago will fall out of the sliding window and not be considered.
