Date: Thursday, March 17 16:42 UTC 2011

In collaboration with NIC.br and PTT.br, we would like to announce the availability
of a new RouteViews collector located at PTT Metro in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We are
currently recruiting peers to contribute routes to the collector. Please contact
help@routeviews.org if you would like to participate in the project.

NIC.br is the registry for Brazil which works in cooperation with LACNIC.
PTT.br is the organization which administers IXP's in Brazil, at over 20 locations
throughout the country. RouteViews is a National Science Foundation project
based in the United States, and has been collecting routing information since
1997. The home pages for each of these organizations is listed below.

RouteViews has been a prevailing member of the Internet community for over 10 years.
RouteViews operates data collectors throughout the world, and provides support
to researchers and operators. RouteViews data provides a significant source of
information to the network community for the study of global routing dynamics.

More recently, RouteViews data is being used for near-real-time notifications which
can enable the detection of prefix hi-jacks, and other routing anomalies. Through
work in collaboration with Colorado State University and UCLA, RouteViews is able to
contribute to the Cyclops system which offers a free service providing notifications
of routing anomalies. See:

RouteViews peering is somewhat different than normal peering. Peers are asked
to provide a full RIB-out. This provides a more complete view of each session,
and enables operators and researchers to conduct more detailed analysis than would be
possible otherwise. On PTT Metro we are establishing direct peerings in contrast to
peerings that would normally go through the community Route Servers. Additional
RouteViews peering information is located at: http://www.peeringdb.com/view.php?asn=6447

RouteViews depends on the support of the Internet community. We would like to take
this opportunity to thank the talented members of NIC.br and PTT.br for their time and
energy in helping make this collector possible. We look forward to continue working
with the LACNIC community, and hope that RouteViews is able to provide a useful tool to the
operators and researchers in the region.
